Cosplay Interview: Sachie

Here is the other lovely lady that dropped me a comment on the Black Gold Saw cosplay blog. It is really great when a cosplayer you posted photos of drops by.

This time we venture to our neighbors to the north to catch up with our latest cosplayer - Sachie. Though she did a stunning cosplay of Black Gold Saw, you need to check out her Akiyama Mio cosplay from K-On!. She did a very whimsical version of her from Listen! which I have some here of.

She is also part of an awesome cosplay group which you find out more about below. Speaking of which, I guess it is time for me to be quiet and for you to take a gander below for the interview.

What is your name, where do you reside and what is your age?

My name is Sachie, I'm 18 years old and I live in Toronto, Canada~

What first started you on the road to cosplay?

I attended my first anime convention when I was 14 years old with my school's anime club! It was super exciting - I'd never been to an anime convention before and had only seen pictures of cosplays on the internet! I didn't cosplay during my first con but I took lots of pictures.

That really got me excited for future conventions. The following year at Anime North, I did my first cosplay! It was a pretty bad cosplay of Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden. I wasn't really that serious about cosplay then. That same con, I met my cosplay partner Ringo! We really started working hard and getting more into our cosplays after that!

How do you choose which characters you will Cosplay?

I generally like to cosplay characters that pique my interest! I seem to have conditioned myself to like characters I feel that I resemble, therefore I tend to cosplay girls with long black/dark hair and characters that are tall.

Generally when I cosplay with my friends in a group, I cosplay a secondary or side character! Ringo usually will cosplay the main character, and there always seems to be a taller dark haired female side character which I usually end up doing haha!

I also love cosplaying characters that have unique character design, like Black Gold Saw from BlackRockShooter (giant weapon and armour!), Meiko from Vocaloid (cool armour designs), and Hiiragi from .hack//GU (very colourful~)

What conventions or shows have you cosplayed at and what type of turn out do you have in your area of the world?

Anime conventions in Canada are generally quite popular. I've been to big conventions in Ontario like Anime North and Fan Expo, as well as smaller cosplay events located in Toronto (like cosplay gatherings/photoshoots).

I saw that you did a Black Rock Star Photo Shoot at AnimeNorth this year. How hard is it to get a group shot setup at a convention?

My cosplay group (called MOETRONcos) worked very hard to assemble a group for our BlackRockShooter cosplay! I thought it would be a good idea to assemble all the BRS cosplayers in one area for photo ops, as well as being able to talk to other cosplayers of the same series. It was quite hard to organize as there were so many cosplayers, as well as a ring of photographers/spectators surrounding us!

All in all, I think it turned out quite well! It was very fun! :)

You had a very impressive sword for your Black Gold Saw Cosplay. How difficult is it carrying something that large around a convention? Have you accidentally ‘stabbed’ someone?

It was quite hard because BGS already has so much going on for her outfit - long back hair, horns, knee armor, high heeled boots, claws... Carrying around that giant King Saw was not an easy task, but paid off! I also felt like such a badass when I was walking around the con with a giant jagged sword, lol!

Black Gold Saw also has leg armour (dagger-like weapons on the knees), so I basically stabbed myself in the chest each time I had to put my boots back on! Also might have stabbed a few people whilst trying to hug them... ;_;

When not cosplaying, what do you do?

As of now, school work. I'm a full time university student so I'm quite swamped with assignments and homework, which isn't very fun. Other than that, I like drawing, reading (...manga! :D), watching anime, hanging out with my friends, and sleeping (during random hours of the day, uni keeps me up so late ;_;) I'm also usually trying to collect resources or start little parts for future cosplay projects!

For any aspiring cosplayers a little shy, what words of wisdom do you have for them to get started?

Just go for it! Cosplaying is such a fun experience and is so different from what we experience in everyday lives, so just go out there and have fun! Cosplay characters you like or feel attracted to, it makes the experience more fun!

Where can we catch more of your Cosplay at?

I do have a Facebook page which frequently check/talk to people on! I upload convention vlogs and dance covers to my YouTube. I also film vlogs with my cosplay group! My cosplay.com has most of my cosplay photos. And finally, I have a Twitter which I update super often!
