KEEP SAN DIEGO COMIC CON HERE IN SAN DIEGO!

BY DC RUSHTON

The world famous San Diego Comic Con maybe moving to the LA area. This would be a tremendous loss to our city. It is as much of our city’s identity as the Cabrillo National Monument, or the San Diego Zoo. AND, may this NATIVE BORN San Diegan add, a “SOURCE OF PRIDE” in his city.

Rumors have been flying! On the Comic Con’s home page last year. This was announced as “For Immediate Release”.

“Comic Con to Stay in San Diego.” Organization consider other California cities to accommodate growing demand.

San Diego--- Comic Con International: San Diego (Comic Con), the largest comics convention in THE WORLD, today announced it will be staying in San Diego for the foreseeable future.

The Comic Con has reached a self-imposed attendance limit at the San Diego Convention Center, (SDCC) in 2007 and has caped attendance at approximately 125,000 people each year since. At looking for better accommodate the growing demand from attendees and exhibitors. The non profit organization con ceder purposes for a move to larger facilities in LA or Anaheim after the expiration of it’s SDCC lease in 2012. This decision keeps Comic Con in San Diego through 2015.

“We are grateful for the tireless efforts all 3 cities put into their proposals”, said David Glanzer, Comic-Con director of marking and PR. “In the end, we feel this is best for the organization itself. We are happy that the community has worked with us to ensure that we will remain here.”

It is in this San Diegan opinion, FOR TOO LONG, the GOD OF SPORTS, has COME FIRST, AND FOR MOST in San Diego. WHAT’S MY PROBLEM? As this sport fanatic in full attired in, ( I pause as the BILE rises in my throat ) Charger’s foot ball shirt, and Bolts hat, holding a “40”,TRIED to tell me, and I must TRANLATE:

“ I gotta scoels ya FOOL. Foolie un turd of Die-egg-go hin-come is BALL FOOL.” (fool is used by this human to end EACH sentence for punctuation)

Translation : “I got to school you. Fully 1/3 of San Diego’s come from BALL!”

“WHAT ABOUT THE “VISITORS BUREAU’S’ 2009 YEARLY REPORT THAT SAID:”WE ESTIMATED THE COMIC-CON IMPACT ON LOCAL ECONOMY WAS $ 41 MILLION?”

I had to leave because I will NOT WASTE MY BREATH ON A DRUNKIN SPORT FOOL INHUMAN! WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 2/3 OF OUR CITY’S INCOME? It is called “Cultural”. Dirty word around here where BALL IS ALL! Plow all that cultural crap under. All those Balboa Park Museums and Arts Centers should be leveled! Build another BALL PARK and STADIUM BUILT THERE! That will bring more money into San Diego. San Diego Symphony? MUSIC? Who wants to hear some FAT WOMAN SING? The San Diego Convention Center needs expansion funding more than any BALL/SPORTS stadium ever would. And it needed it TOO many years ago. Not what little is being funded now.

OK! We of the “FOOLS”, of San Diego Comic Con, ALL 500,000 of us, must “Re-Make” our self, if you will. More “Sports-Like”. How? E-Z!

“TEAM SAN DIEGO COMIC CON”

We will have ALL THE SPORTS ACCESSORIES! Ball Caps with LOGO. Sport drinking bottle. Shirts. (we all ready got that). Coolers and tote bags. The more the better!
AND DON”T FORGET THE CHEER LEADERS! (I shall leave that to your imagination) Claim our yearly Con is the “Play Offs”, (to sports/ball jerk-off) Play the “Star Spangled Banner”, the beginning of each day. AND MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL….!

A OFFICIAL “BEER” FOR THE COMIC CON!

AND I KNOW JUST WHO WILL…… “MILLER HIGH LIFE BEER”!

And if that don’t work and the city government build yet ANOTHER STADIUM!

  1. I am a HUGE fan of the San Diego area, coming from the SF Bay Area. I love going down there to the Con, with a chance to visit the great city.

That being said, I think the Comic Con experience is hurt by the undersized venue for that many people. When I went the year before last, it was so crowded and I could not get into most of the presentations I wanted to see.

A move to Anaheim is a move to more space. In fact, one of the largest convention centers in the world. Besides, I would get to go to the Con and drop my wife off at the local babysitters (Disneyland). A day of toys and comics for me, and Mickey for her. A win-win.

I am not terribly swayed either direction, but I do think they really have to do something about the size limit, and how many people they crush into the con each day.

  2. @Logan ~ I have never had the fun of being there myself but have heard of the crowds as well. I really wish SD had a bigger venue

  3. Been a long time since I was out there, but I lived in San Diego for a while. That sucks that they want to move it to LA, LA has too damn much going on as it is in my opinion. I guess size of venue is the problem here though, but why not put some of the budget into expanding the convention center?

  4. @Persocom ~ with the way the economy is, I am sure there will be a few people mad their money is going to this, but it would also create jobs and future revenue. Lets hope smoother heads prevail.
