Quick Look: Polar Bear Cafe

Polar Bear Cafe

Yep, you read the title right and it is not just a fancy name. A Polar Bear runs this Cafe and his name is, well, Polar Bear. It seems all the animals names are the animal they are as well. Thus the craziness of this series begins to show.

All the animals are drawn very realistic and not cartoony as other shows. They walk around with us humans and interact in our native language. I had to catch this after reading a few tweets about it. Here are some humorous parts and things that will make you go 'Whhhhaaaaaaaaaatttt???".

*** SPOILER ALERT ******

The main characters are a Polar Bear, Penguin and an Adolescent Panda. Interesting mix of main characters, but even more show up as well. We see that Momma Panda wants her son to get a job - even part time is fine. Except he is very lazy and only wants to eat bamboo. Mom of course takes the vacuum and starts using it on him. This will be common in any situation they are in when she is a bit pissed with him.

After many failed attempts (including working at Polar Bear Cafe), he finds his job. He will work part time at a Petting Zoo. Doing what you may ask - well - being a Panda of course. It seems that the animals work at the Petting Zoo as the animals they represent. They even have a full time Panda.

It seems that Polar Bear Cafe will be the 'hot spot' throughout this show (hence the name of the show). Even the Polar Bear is a bit odd as when a order is placed, he mixes up the words and comes out with other things other than what was ordered.

Here is a simple example of what happens when the Penguin asks for 'Seconds' (okawari):

Will I be watching this any further - probably not. I will have to see what my son thinks however as he may like it, but not get the jokes :P

Overall Rating: D ~ just seems like it will repeat the same the same stuff, so not sure where this is going - if anywhere.

  1. I thought about checking this out since it's short episodes. I may still do so but I think Folktales from Japan is more suited for my son.

    1. It is a good mix of animals and humans, but I think it may get repetitive in the jokes.

  3. Don't know about this anime but 'D' seems pretty low rating. I will just stick to 'Lucky Star'. Lolz...

    1. Not really my show preference, but it must have a fan base out there for it.

  4. Just based on one episode whole anime is not worth watching. You're terrible reviewer.

    1. Everyone can be a critic and it is up to you the viewer if we have any merit. Based on your logic however, it is pretty critical to base all my review skills from one review you read :D
