Cosplayer Interview: Mimi Mon

You may already recognize this cosplayer from one of my Friday Cosplay Posts of Hattress ~ Mimi Mon.

She was someone that we got introduced to by Amakura Reika who we also interviewed. She is another stunning cosplay from the beautiful South Pacific. Once we got past the amazing Hattress cosplay, we found that she has done some other awesome cosplays.

Her most recent one was of Cul from Vocaloid 3. It was done with a whole group of cosplayers which did a exceptional job on a multitude of Vocaloid characters (link).

If you loved the Hattress cosplay as much as I do, please 'like' her photo for a competition at Otaku House. You know that I already voted for her ;^)

Enough blah, blah, blah, lets get to the interview:

What is your name, where do you reside and what is your age?

O-HA-YO~!! ⓿ᴥ⓿ Mimi Monster here! you can call me MimiMon for short. I am from Quezon City Philippines and as of now ಥ_ಥ I am 22 years old

What first started you on the road to cosplay?

When I went to college, I've become close with a groupmate [whom i now call "Mom"] who is also interested in the likes of Anime and stuffs. I've always liked to watch Anime and do some crafts, so when she had found about it., she invited me to go with her in a Cosplay Convention. I am not really aware that there's such thing as Cosplay events here in the Philippines so I decided to go with her. Culture shock much 8D

After that event, They told me to try it, and i did, and it was so fun!! o(≧▽≦)o I get to meet a lot of new people with the same hobby and now we are close friends.

Which of your cosplays was the most difficult to do and why?

The most difficult Cosplay that i did so far would be The Grave of Maria from D Gray Man.

Firstly, the gown is heavy *due to the petticoat inside* and long that it makes me trip from time to time. ┐( ̄- ̄;)┌

Secondly, her usual pose is in the in likes of singing with her mouth wide open. for me it's kinda embarrassing

and Lastly., HER MASK!! it's really hard to see through it especially when your in a convention @____@ People kept on asking me if I can see and all. Well the truth is, I can only see silhouettes of things and people around me that's why I am able to dodge them Hoho

You did both Alice and Hattress from Alice: Madness Returns and you can’t tell they would be the same person. How hard is it to transform yourself for each cosplay so you look different?

It's not really that hard to portray a character if you really know them, it will just come out eventually and also, thanks to the power of Wig, Lenses and mostly Make Up that I can make myself look different from one character to another
. . .

that it's so scary sometimes XD

This is her most striking pose of Hattress

Speaking of Hattress, you really did a stunning cosplay of her. How long did it take you to make this and what were some of the hurdles with developing this?

(≧◡≦) aww Thank you so much!! ♡

ahm, It took me almost a week to make that costume, resulting into lots of needle pricks and bruises at my fingers XD thank god that Hattress is wearing a pair of white gloves so that I can cover my disgusting hands during the event. It's because I sewed the leathers by hand in her dress so that it will always stay in place and thick type of leathers are not really that easy to sew with ( ̄- ̄;).

Actually, I almost gave up on the cosplay because of the hat >__< that most important part took me longer to make than the actual costume. I made it from scratch because I can't find any checkered fabrics and then did some embroidery for the details. It's my first time to make such thing so there are LOTS of trials and errors.

When looking at some of your photographs, you are doing some very professional posing. Is this something that you developed over the years or was it by studying the characters as well?

(●´ω`●) Before doing a cosplay, I make sure that i have watched or seen the series that the character is into. and yup i also do some more research and look for Pegs for poses that would fit for the portrayal of the character :P

You also are doing some fashion photography as well. Is this something you are hoping to transition into with your cosplay as well?

Σ(゚д゚lll)

wah nuuu you've seen it LOL

ahm for me it's just for fun. I'm not hoping for a transition from a cosplayer into a model coz I am aware that my body is not that of for-model-types. I just love playing dress up and posing and all :P

When not cosplaying, what do you do?

Gaining experience at work/trainings :P

and hanging out with my friends and drinking at Bubble Tea (~ ̄▽ ̄)~

For any aspiring cosplayers a little shy, what words of wisdom do you have for them to get started?

Don't be shy, Cosplay is for everyone ☆〜(ゝ。∂)

Please be careful on buying online. Just because they are cheap doesn't mean that they are a good buy. Do some research regarding the shop to avoid on being a Scam Victim.

High Quality doesn't necessarily mean that it should always be in high price. Well that is in regards of the Costume Materials. Don't buy it in places like of malls. Remember that they are paying their stalls so they usually sell their items at a much higher price. If your from around Manila, I would highly recommend the place called Divisoria, I always buy my materials from there (¬‿¬)
------------

Cosplaying is not just for rich people as most people around me usually say. If there's a will, then There's a way. If one really wants to make a Cosplay of the character that he/she likes, then Save up money for it :)

Just because there's a cosplay convention coming up doesn't mean that you must have a new cosplay for EACH of it. It's better to wait for a big event and prepare the hell out for it

ლ(ಠ益ಠ)ლ

Lastly, Don't forget a Safety Pocket.

If you can put one or two in your costume, please do. It has always been dilemma of mine on where to keep my valuable belongings like money and cellphones during the conventions. And I do think that it is a must for all of the Cosplayers.
