Cosplayer Interview: Kuri Curry

Welcome to another Cosplayer Interview as this week we have Kuri Curry. What a pretty cool name for a cosplayer :D

She stumbled upon our site and we are glad that she did. We are not ones to turn down a request as kind as hers, so here we are. What really caught my eye was the number of crossplays she had done. You usually see a couple, but she had a large list and all were beautiful. Some of the photography was also quite exceptional of her cosplays.

Now we noted that she sewed her own clothes and when you check out the interview, see what she uses for this. It is nothing but amazing for these cosplays she had done.

Now I think it is time to get into our interview and you can see and read just what we mean.

What is your name, where do you reside and what is your age?

|ʘ‿ʘ)╯Kuri/ Kris whichever works.
Am from the Philippines and am old 'enough'.

What first started you on the road to cosplay?

The surreal into reality-- the idea that I could 'bring' a character literally to life appealed so much.

How do you choose which characters you will Cosplay?

Personality -- (°ロ°)☝
Then body type, (no lady bits here folks) Although I tend to choose characters close to my own. Although almost always they're, GUYS. "OTL

I see that a good part of your cosplays are sometimes designed around the Victorian-Style. Is this something that happened by accident or is these styles something you are drawn to?

I was born in the wrong century. (╥﹏╥)

Am drawn to carnage with grace, killing with style, and really intricate clothes.

The Renaissance to Victorian/Edwardian era has it all--- Assassin's, Leonardo da Vinci... (σ・・)σ

You have done some crossplay that was extremely well executed. Do you find it more fun to crossplay than cosplay?

(づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ Wow thank you!! And truth be told, yes.

Do you prepare yourself differently for a crossplay character than a regular female character?

I take a lot more 'test' shots with male characters.

The difference with male one's is that there's a LOT of eyeliner involved. (◟ᅇ)◜ ( Am no pro at makeup, but am confident in shaping the eyes )

You noted that you make everything by hand sewing. What are some of your day to day items that you use when making your cosplays and how long does a ‘normal’ cosplay take to make?

Am fond of lace, and very picky with my needles.

ε-(´・`) フ I use a 1 1/4 long John James Beading needle for everything. As for a 'normal' cosplay, let's say a Lucky Star uniform? It takes 6-8 hours approximately.

What conventions or shows have you cosplayed at and have you gotten any awards?

Won some competitions way back 2006 and 2007. I doubt anyone remembers. And I attend most conventions in my country.

When not cosplaying, what do you do?

I do web coding, mag layouts, sketch, do photography, design clothes for my BJD [Ball Joint Doll], try loads of food (っ˘ڡ˘ς) drink tea, play RPG's and read.

Not a lot eh? (~^.^)~

For any aspiring cosplayers a little shy, what words of wisdom do you have for them to get started?

(●°u°●) Ask yourself, what's stopping you?
There's a whole lot to gain and not a lot to lose!
If you can't do it alone, go with friends! (´ε` )♡

Where can we catch more of your Cosplay at?
