Restoration of Ranma 1/2 for North America

Ranma 1/2 remastered for blu-ray/dvd is something I am looking forward to. This was the first manga I read before realizing it was called 'manga'. It is an olde school series, but one that will always be one for the ages. I can't wait to show this to my son as I am sure he will get a kick out of the series. People changing into other genders or animals, love triangles and martial arts - what else could be more exciting.
Limited Edition Blu-ray Set

I am pleased at what I am seeing in the preview video (see below) of the updated color. It gives it a more modern look with the vivid colors that we are all looking for. With the weak colors, it looked ancient and not something someone today would watch. With this upgrade, it just screams at you now and really bring the whole story back to life.

This will showcase the first 23 episodes  in order as they appeared in Japan which is a first for the North American release. Though both sets will have additional material (2013 NYCC highlight reel and Trailers), the LE one will have case box illustrated by Takahashi (gold foil stamped) and a 64-page booklet guide in full color. It will also have some extra disks from the 2013 NYCC panel and other commentary. I would suggest getting the blu-ray box set as you will see it uncropped in a 4:3 aspect ratio and 1080p HD.

Pricing will be as follows: 3-disc Limited Edition Blu-ray Box Set is $54.97 with the DVD set at $44.82.

Is this something on your radar or are you skipping it?

  1. Ahhh... I really wish this release could also include the Spanish dub, since it's the one I grew up with. It would be great to have a release with ALL languages for that matter, since I personally feel the English dub was rather poor.

I used to take turns with my friend to record Ranma 1/2 episodes straight off the TV into VHS tapes, my friend eventually mailed those tapes to me when I moved to the U.S. and sharing those is how I ended up making a few friends in high school.

I also remember Ranma 1/2 vol.2 was my very first manga book. I remember thinking the book was so bland being in black and white, and I actually colored in some of the pages!!!

    1. I got lucky as I worked at a store in the Mall back in the day that let me 'borrow' them to read at home. Though it is a cool and funny series, it never got the attention it rightly deserved. It would be nice to also include other languages for everyone to enjoy!

    1. I think it is a good fun anime to watch knowing what I read. I just didn't find them much to watch as I was a bit busy with other stuff :^)
